What is Osteopathy?

The missing piece to your wellness journey

Osteopathy is a drug free, non-invasive, manual therapy that seeks to guide a person's anatomy and physiology to greater health by ensuring proper alignment, mobility and vitality of individual bones, muscles and organs, thus creating harmony in the whole system and ultimately, the entire person.

What is Osteopathy good for?

All stages, all conditions

The beauty of Osteopathy is that we, as practitioners, do not look to cure disease or supress symptoms but to find and enhance the health that already exists within your system - the difference is subtle but powerful. It is a difference that makes Osteopathy truely universal in its application. It does not matter whether you are a newborn or elderly, an athlete or desk worker, we all have patterns of health, of behaviour and of life that cause misaligment and dysfunction in our bodies which manifest as reflux, spasm, headaches, digestive issues, etc. The Osteopathic Practitioner is trained to evaluate the condition of every bone, muscle, organ and tissue and understands how that dysfunction affects other structures within the body. The Practitioner is then able to utilize precise techniques to guide that tissue back to the more natural, healthy state.

How is Osteopathy different from Massage or Chiropractic Therapy?

Everything is connected

Osteopathy shares many similaries with Chiropractors, Massage, Cranio-Sacral Therapy and Body Talk Therapy, but what sets Osteopathy apart from these is the holistic nature of the modality. We, as Practitioners, are not limited to the bones or muscles, the skull or organs, but rather, understand the complex interrelationships of every structure and tissue in the body, how they influence each other and utilize that knowledge to guide our treatments. Your body sees itself as totally connected, so does Osteopathy!

What can I expect in a treatment?

Start to finish, truly holistic

Osteopathic treatments consist of three essential parts - intake, assessment and treatment.

During the 5 minute intake (this takes longer the first appointment), you share your concerns and describe your symptoms and I will ask you questions regarding those symptoms. Secondly, the assessment takes about 10-15 minutes and is performed clothed so it is recommended that you wear comfortable and loose clothing that you can easily move around in. The assessment flow is unique to each therapist, but a good Osteopath maintains consistency in every assessment - this gives the ideal framework for tracking your progress and confirms for the therapist the effectiveness of the treatment. Finally, the remaining 40-45 minutes of the session is dedicated to treatment which is also performed clothed. Osteopathic techniques are applied very gently, specifically targeting the structures involved in creating your symptoms and are often very subtle.

At the end of your treatment, I will provide you with some recommendations for home care to ensure the results last and to help you keep making improvements on your journey to better function!

Testimonials

What patients have to say about Osteopathy
testimonial image

Our daughter started seeing Erica at two weeks old for infantile GERD and sleep issues due to a challenging birth. We have witnessed remarkable improvements after each appointment. My daughter’s sleep has improved tremendously, the GERD has resolved and her overall movements have become more fluid and unrestricted. Erica’s expertise in releasing tension throughout Avery’s body has been instrumental in her development. I firmly believe that every newborn should have the opportunity to see an osteopath like Erica after delivery as the benefits extend far beyond specific issues. We are truly grateful for Erica’s exceptional care. - Rebecca

I started seeing Erica in May 2023. I had been bucked off a horse a year prior and suffered a pinched nerve off and on ever since. A friend recommended Erica and I could not be more grateful that she did! Erica has the knowledge and ability to target the specific issue and treat it accordingly. The difference the osteopathic treatments has made for me is outstanding! - Tina

I've struggled with old injuries for years. I've seen numerous other practitioners who run through the same routines and techniques, never addressing the root cause of my pain. Erica has taken a methodical and targeted approach and I finally feel like I'm on a path to recovery! - Andrew
